Robert John Green enlisted with the Canadian Artillery in September 1939 and was killed in action at Berghoff, Germany, as stated in the Brampton Book of Remembrance.

An article from the Brampton Conservator from April 5, 1945 announces that Flt. Sgt. R. Green Reported Missing.

Mr. And Mrs. Charles Green, Union Street a message this week that their son, F/S. Robert John Green, had been missing overseas on March 31st. He was born in Brampton twenty years ago and attended Brampton High and Public Schools, and at the time of his enlistment with the RCAF in Toronto, September 1943, was a member of Grace United Church. He received his training at Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Lachine, Quebec, and went overseas in June 1944. He took further training in England and went into active service on March 1st, 1944.

The book German Night Fighters Versus Bomber Command by Martin Bowman, mentions on page 238,

 

“Seven 434 ‘Bluenose’ Squadron crews reported ten combats, resulting in one ME 262 being probably destroyed and two toerhs at least damaged. The Lancaster flown by Flying Officer Gilbert Paul Haliburton who was killed, crashed at Nettelnburg. Flight Sergeant Robert John Green also died but the rest of his crew survived and were taken prisoner.

He is commemorated on Page 520 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance.

 

The CWGC War Graves Registration Report Form shows Robert was to be buried in Ohlsorfer-Friedhof Cemetery, Hamburg, Germany, in Plot IIIA, Row J, Grave 9. He was moved from the Plot 59, Row 4, Grave 14 to his current position within the same Ohlsorfer-Friedhof Cemetery.
