Thomas (Tommy) Wellwood Thompson was born on January 17, 1917 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Amos Wellwood Thompson and Myrtle Millicent Foster of Brampton.

Tommy married Vera Annie MacKinnon in December 1942.

Thomas enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on April 1942, where he served in Canada and overseas.

He was reported missing in action by July 15, 1944. The Air Force Casualties list shows him missing after Air Operations on August 6, 1944, and August 8, 1944, along with David Douglas Ashliegh, Thomas Govan Evans, and Jack Wilson.

F. O. Thomas Wellwood (Tommy) Thompson aimer on a Halifax bomber (MZ 679), previously reported missing, was killed over France June 29 and buried in a cemetery there, according to word received by his widow, the former Vera MacKinnon, Garden Ave, whom he married in December 1942. Born in Winnipeg, the son of Mr. And Mrs. A. W. Thompson, Brampton, he was a teller with the Earlscourt branch of the Bank of Commerce before enlisting. F. O. Thompson received his winds and commission at St. Johns, Quebec and went overseas in May 1943. Surviving are two brothers Flt. Lieut. J. G. Thompson, D.F.C., recently retired from the R.C.A.F. and Homer, Brampton.

Lesges is a village 16 kilometres south-east of Soissons and about 5 kilometres south of Braine a small town on the road from Soissons to Reims. The war graves lie in the south-east part of the LESGES CHURCHYARD near the southern boundary.

His Ontario Registration of Death says his permanent address at the time of his death was 3 Peel Avenue, Brampton, Ontario. Unusually, the cause of death is listed as, Previously reported missing after air operations, now for official purposes, presumed dead versus specifics of the accident or injury which was common at the time.
